· Read more about: QRG
Hey! So…yeah…I was sitting there, industriously clicking and typing away, minding my own business, when suddenly I fell sick (again!). But then I went to see the doctor (great guy!) and he gave me the merchandise (drugs!) and now I feel better (good drugs!), and so…the QRG will be with you. Just 10 days later than expected.
Anyway, thanks for waiting
.
P.S. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that that “only” treating symptoms is a bad thing.
Donate to AJATT. Go on. Because you know what? If you don't donate...I'm not saying you won't be happy, but...I'm just...saying...

I still think Chinese medicine pwns, exactly because it adresses the root of the issue instead of fighting the symptoms.
But, as long as you’re healthy, it doesn’t really matter
Get well soon, and finish the Guide already! If nothing else, do it to get it over with

Hey Khatz I hope you get better bro and I have a simple question for you, or anyone really.
I’m not really the brightest bulb in the bunch but I’m really taking your idea and methods to heart because it’s been a huge dream of mine to learn Japanese but I just started this all recent and I’ve gotten rid of my English music most of the literature around me and started to overhaul my computer.
I’ve also bought rtk1-3 and the kana book as well so it all boils down to…
Where and how do I start the studying of the kanji? I know hirigana and katakana decently already but I don’t know where to begin… It’s probably stated on tv site and I guarantee I skipped it in my sheet excitement for finding a method that has potential to actually work for me. If I did I apologize.
Please for give any spelling errors or said issues typed all this on my iPod haha. Anyway thank you to anyone who may have the answer I’m looking fore!!

Omg I got it!!!
I was watching CNN
“‘Burn out sickness’ is affecting many people across the globe. What is this sickness? Well incredibly its a language learning sickness that happens when you extensively have fun in a certain language, but then it starts to get boring, almost instantly in some cases extreme cases of boredom and sadness occur, making the stomach feel queasy. The creator of the ‘AJATT’ method has provided a cure but will be postponed another 10 days as he said on his site since he was suffering from the sickness, but was cured through his method. AJATT is highly claimed to be the best way to learn a language, but many language teachers criticize it. Saying: ‘Its an unproven way to learn a language’ but the facts say differently. The creator Khatzumoto says that there ‘just afraid of losing students’. Stay tuned for more”

Khatz your the man I really hope you get better.
And well since my other post is gone a simple question for avyone or Khats himself…. Where do you start doing Kanji I have the books I have Anki and all that I just have NO idea how to start. Thanks.
Squintox said,

Well, I don’t about the QRG. So I’m here to say, get well soon ^^
Maya said,
July 24, 2009 @ 03:59
This is a bit of a late request, so I’ll understand if you don’t have space/time to address this issue in the QRG, but:
How did you deal with the gender issue? Did words like “kashira” or “wa” (the girly particle, not the topic marker) ever make it into your SRS, or did you just learn what they mean from exposure and leave it at that? Is it safe for me to have sentences with ore, ze/zo, etc in my SRS? etc.
Joe said,
July 24, 2009 @ 14:43
@Maya I would say definitely put all these words into your SRS. Even if you won’t use them, other people do so you’ll have to be able to understand them one way or another. BTW, 俺 is quite commonly used by men, don’t be afraid to use it yourself (I personally do)!
Jaybot7 said,
July 24, 2009 @ 15:17
@Maya, I’m not Khatz, but he has addressed that a few times before
Basically, learn them all. かしら/わ ぞ/ぜ are everywhere and they basically give flavor to the language to let you know who is speaking (since sometimes, as you know, the subject is completely left out of the sentence). あたし 俺 僕 お前 奴 etc will give you the flavor of the character who is speaking, if she/he’s coarse or nice or commanding or timid. Oh, especially changing almost every あい/おい ending to ええ like じぇねえ (じゃない) or おもしれい (面白い), you’ll need that eventually
And it’s all over manga, anime, dramas, and believe it or not (regardless of what textbooks and many 日本人 are afraid to admit), in real life
If you’re sentence mining a manga, there is no real reason to clean up the language (other than changing かな into 漢字 that you are more familiar with) as that is really how it is being read.
Err… but if Khatz wants to jump in, I’m sure he will
Jonathan said,
July 25, 2009 @ 06:14
I think it’s just another thing you pick up from context. When your brain hears かしら and the like being used by females all the time, but rarely by males, it gradually infers that the use of かしら is correlated with the speaker’s gender. Then when you eventually start “outputting”, you’ll automatically use or avoid using かしら as appropriate, because it would just “sound wrong” otherwise.
Maya said,
July 25, 2009 @ 10:09
@Jaybot and Jonathan
Thanks! I was worried that if I put in sentences with 俺, ぞ/ぜ, etc, I’d start speaking like a guy or something
BFinger said,

So, did Khatz say something about money for this QRG?
I mean, I would sure pay some kind of “optional donation” for his effort and dedication on it, but I don’t really like the idea of commercializing the AJATT, making some kind of “VIP material” and leaving the rest of the site like a form of attracting people to buy it.
I hope Khatz think well at this.
And I’m trully sorry about my english, I honestly hope my japanese to get better than this…
Jaybot7 said,
July 27, 2009 @ 04:27
Heh, you might
After watching 魔女の宅急便 the first 500 times, I would accidentally use わ sometimes simply because so many of the phrases in the movie are spoken by girls. I corrected it really quickly though!
Now I just have to stop overusing the ‘Kanto’ dialect. しょがねえ ね.

General question from someone just starting out:
Started the immersion, memorized both kana, and started RTK, and have thus far had good results.
My one concern is, I’m learning to read Japanese kanji as if they are symbols that need to be translated to English, and I haven’t the faintest clue how any of them would be pronounced… This may not be a problem, but when I encounter hiragana or katakana, they are spelling out words, that I may or may not know the kanji for, but I still wouldn’t be able to discern the meaning.
Is this alright? Is this a problem that will be ironed out in a later stage of the process? Am i misunderstanding something?
I’d appreciate any help, one could offer.
