What Is AJATT Plus?

It’s a great play-sure to have all of you here today…

I’ve always wanted to say “pleasure” like that, with a straight face.

What Is AJATT Plus?

It’s “AJATT” with “Plus” attached to it! What, I have to explain it to you? OK here we go…

Executive Summary: AJATT Plus =  Super Uber Cool Premium Version of AJATT = Forum +  AJATT Articles in Translated Into Japanese + Members-Only Benefits + Friends With Benefits 😛 .

To make all this work, AJATT Plus is subscription-based. This does a number of things:

  • Pays for hookers and blow for Khatzumoto and Momoko, all at your expense. This is crucial. No hookers + no blow = 🙁 . Not good, people.
  • Forumwise, it acts as a conveniently simple barrier to people less intelligent than you, who would otherwise waste your time and flava.
  • Other stuff. Like research about hookers and blow. I cannot overestimate the importance of the H&B.

Why AJATT Plus Sucks and You Should Stop Reading This Now and Never Look Back

  • The name is stoopid
  • You should know better than to take Japanese advice from random Kenyans on the Internet, I mean…come on, man…seriously.
  • It’s too weird
  • For the price of “AJATT Plus”, you could buy like at least two gallons of milk, even in Japan
    • Two gallons!
    • You then take this milk, put it on a high-sugar cereal, and BA-DA-BING! Happiness
    • Can “AJATT Plus” give you a sugar high?
    • Nooooo…
    • I mean, AJATT Plus is so bad, there are nested bullet-points about how bad it is
  • AJATT products and services in general suck so hard that this one should just be called “AJATT Minus”
  • Dude, what was this list even about?

So What’s In It, This “AJATT Plus”?

Here’s what you get:

  • Access to AJATT Plus members-only AJATT forums(yes, forums), where you will:
    • Buy/sell/swap media
      • Save on shipping from Japan
      • Save on buying new books, DVDs, CDs, etc.
      • Make money on your used media and hardware that would otherwise go to waste
      • Put to good use media and hardware (dictionaries, etc.) that would otherwise go to waste
    • Work with other committed learners, encouraging and helping one other
    • Get cool tools, links and techniques
    • Save time spent finding and/or learning how to use cool tools, links and techniques
    • Share your techniques and experiences
    • Enjoy a safe, moderated, well-lit environment populated by polite, intelligent, good-looking, well-spoken, fun and mentally-stable human beings just like you.
    • Get your questions answered faster
  • Access to AJATT Plus members-only Japanese translations of original AJATT articles
    • Not just translated word-for-word, but “re-imagined” into Japanese to flow as if they always had been in Japanese.
    • Checked and edited by native Japanese writers, to ensure you get the highest quality
  • Get free copies and previews of AJATT products
    • Present and future sentence packs
    • Multimedia products
  • Get members-only discounts on AJATT products
  • Get exclusive insider information on Khatzumoto’s l33t tactics and ground-level techniques, for free

Who’s It Even For, This “AJATT Plus”?

  • You’ll benefit from the forums no matter what level you’re at.
  • Even if you’re not learning Japanese, you’ll benefit from the forums just as you have from the AJATT Blog.
  • If you’re a beginner, you’ll benefit from having other AJATT Plus members help you get your bearings and get started
  • If you’re intermediate, the fact that the articles have both text and audio will be a good fit for you, especially since there are so few audiobooks in Japanese.
  • If you’re advanced, well, the articles themselves will be fun, unique, quirky reading material for you.
  • And finally, if you’re just looking for a simple monthly way to support AJATT 😀 …there’s always that. You like how I’m pushing this angle? Yeah.

This sounds really awesome! Reading the articles in Japanese would be great, with SRS packs no less! Too bad I don’t have a credit card, would have subscribed right away 🙁

    When does AJATT Plus start?

  5. Steve
    April 7, 2010 at 02:13

    This seems kind of harsh…
I feel like AJATT is all about free stuff, and now to get one of the best parts, the comments, taken away unless you pay, is killer.
    But on another note:
I can understand the money making thing, and the prices aren’t bad at all. ‘Specially with all the sweet stuff you get with it. And I’ll probably end up getting this once I start working more. I just hope you can make the forum menus and such in Japanese…

  6. April 7, 2010 at 02:21

Question: will you (Khatzumoto) participate in the comments/forum discussions after AJATT+ goes live? Or will you keep yourself out of them like you’re doing now?

  7. April 7, 2010 at 02:34

I’m really hoping this works out financially for you and you make AJATT truly profitable…I can’t tell you how inspirational, informative and instructive (redundant but I needed another “i” word) this blog has been for me. I’m waiting on something I should know about in the next 2-3 weeks, so if I get the news I’m expecting I’ll be signing up for sure. Hopefully you can build a profitable, productive and ENJOYABLE (could NOT think of a “P” word for fun) community here, and hopefully be able to make doing what I think you really enjoy (helping japanese language learners) more central to your means of earning a living. Ganbatta ne!

Not enough hype, Khatz! This is actually more than I expect of “Plus.” Don’t you know you’re supposed to OVER hype cool stuff? Rookie mistake, I suppose.

    April 7, 2010 at 03:35

Well I wasn’t gonna at first, but if there’s a forum then hell yeah.

  11. April 7, 2010 at 04:02

I’m going to second what Maya says. The AJATT articles in Japanese sounds awesome. Especially since they come with SRS packs and audio. Definitely a win.

The $89.95 is a bit much for me all at once, so I’m glad I have the option of doing $9.95 per month.

I have a question, though. Are the articles that are already in Japanese going to be paired up with Audio and SRS-pack, too? Also, will the comments that already exist still be there? And, one other question: Will the articles that are being converted to Japanese be archived for download for subscribers, or will they be delivered by Email, or what? I guess I’m wondering if those that might sign up later are only going to have access to the two for each month, or will they also be able to get access to the others as well?

  12. April 7, 2010 at 04:15

I was just thinking, maybe you should do a poll on which articles should be converted each month? Because, if you do them in a random and/or linear fashion, some people could end up waiting 4+ years for their favorite article(s) to be converted to Japanese. By which time, I think if people were going to wait that long, they’d already be a Daoist Butterfly. ~

    lol @ the URL

Dude, this is way awexome. Like, I’ve been seeing the little “Japanese AJATT comin’ soon!” banner, but I was like “no way. Lies.”
But you have PROVEN ME WRONG.
This way I can come to AJATT and not feel guilty about being on an English site! Dang!

    April 7, 2010 at 08:43

Does this mean that all already existing stuff by you like Dick and Jane, and alike will get moved to this “Plus” section?

  17. April 7, 2010 at 08:56

Also another thing. I would like to jump on this. I am currently using the AJATT method for Korean. Will there be a place on the forums for buying/selling/discussing material for other languages? I have a great deal of information and materials to share and a forum for this would be worth the AJATT plus price.

  18. April 7, 2010 at 12:50

Yeah, I’ll second that notion of having sections on the forums for different languages! Though, that could get troublesome.. hmm

  19. April 7, 2010 at 16:46

khatz, you need an ad that says “hookers and blow” in japanese

  20. April 7, 2010 at 17:23

    Hey Khatz,

Congratulations on your new endeavor. Sounds very exciting. I`m currently going through some money acquiring all the stuff for my site, but as soon as I can scrape some together, I`m definitely leaning towards joining in. Wishing you the best.

    Kendo’s right!

Get used to that one, Khatz. 😛

  22. April 7, 2010 at 21:45

Sounds good Khatz, kudos for coming up with this. I honestly think there’s a big market for it, as long as you tackle it well.

Question: will the forum be only useful for Japanese learners?

  23. Ashley
    April 7, 2010 at 23:39

Hi! I’ve been a lurker on this website for a couple of months now and I must say thank you, thank you, thank you so much for putting this website together! It’s really helped me focus my Japanese language study and I’m making more progress than I ever have before.

I really like this idea you’ve come up with for AJATT Plus! I’m definitely going to sign up once I get my ducks in order. I’d love to be able to (attempt to) read the AJATT articles in Japanese and not feel guilty for browsing an English only site for so long.

Keep up the great inspirational work!

Haha really smart pricing. It’s like the exact maximum amount I would consider spending on something like this. I think I’m going to have to go for it…

The idea of an official AJATT forum is amazing. I may sign up just for that, but subscription based? Ouch. Even SomethingAwful is one time pay deal. Oh well, I visit this site almost 10 times a day (And I’m still finding new articles I haven’t read before), so yeah, I think I’m gonna try it.

I’ve been visiting this site for a long time and I I’ve always thought to myself “I need to donate, I need to donate” but it’s always when I have more money. I didn’t have to think twice about signing up for this- this is an easy way for those of us that have been lazy to give back to Khatz.

Why can I only pay with a credit card? 🙁 Please be so kind and allow us not-having-a-credit-card ajatt’lers to susbcribe, too. I’m sure I’m not the only one stopped by this payment method. The other ajatt products were just fine via pay pal …
Anyway. I’m really fascinated my this AJATT PLUS thing. Keep the ball rollin’

Same here with the credit card problem. I might have to sell my soul to someone within the credit-card-owning population..
I hope It works out for both of us until the 12th^^ It would be sad if we had to miss out because of something like that

For alll those folks sans credit cards you can get those rechargable visa cards
from walmart and I think they work like credit cards, check it out.

    April 10, 2010 at 01:35

There are no walmarts in Germany 😀
Nope, will stick to selling my soul. I’m excited though, can’t wait to read the articles^^

    April 10, 2010 at 02:11

you are from Germany, too 😀 For me there is no available way to pay via credit card … kredit-cardを持っています奴が等うらやましいぃ。
However this site, even the non plus one will every be great and is the best gift i received towards learning a language.
Anyway, thanks for this and your motivation.

  32. Farley
    April 10, 2010 at 09:15

I’m going to chime in for the space for additional languages in the forum/buying/selling/swapping materials space. Especially we won’t be interested in the materials translated into Japanese, which seems like a big part of the benefits.

  33. Carl
    April 10, 2010 at 13:11

Just having access to someone’s credit card doesn’t seem to work out. Does anyone know whether I will run into problems if I use my friends PayPal account? Will AJATT+ automatically use the email address linked to that account?
You are totally right! Even if none of this works out, this site already changed my life and I’m grateful for all the advice.

Just noticed that for AJATT plus that there will be srs packs for articles to srs. That will definitely make me try plus for a month to see if I like it. On another note, I think I understand why people have so much difficulty with Japanese. It isn’t that it’s hard to learn, it’s convincing yourself that you can do it. When I found khatz’s site, in the summertime I didn’t believe it could be learned that fast, especially Japanese of all languages. I’ve learned so much Japanese in these past months, it’s surprising to me but yet not even. I’ve learned that basically it’s not the language that is difficult, it’s convincing yourself you can do it.
So basically now, I’m convinced I can master this language in all skills. It’s not hard just takes time and believe then anything else. This site, basically provided that motivation to go full into learning Japanese. Otherwise I’d still be taking classes(:S)-Which would cause a lot of confusion, which I’m sure everyone knows of(especially when you’re not even exposed enough to the language to benefit from any of it)

hey i just bought a gift card to pay for ajatt plus, but i guess that doesnt work through paypal… is there anyway for me to pay with this 30 dollar visa giftcard thing?

  40. May 27, 2010 at 09:38

How come there is an advertisement from my website here? Did you do that khatz? >.> lol, anyways, I think I’m actually going to try out this ajatt plus thing next month

Just wanna push the “other payment methods than credit card”-thing…
I’m not gonna get one, cause I’m lazy and if I’m gonna pay for you H’n’B’s I wanna do it comfortably 😛

Oh yeah and question … What format are the srs-packs in ? Because the MFSP was sucky to import. Maybe the select-function of my pdf reader was the problem tough.

  42. November 18, 2010 at 13:10

i’ll donate and join AJATT +, when i can.

I wouldn’t mind having to pay BUT I really didn’t appreciate hearing about your H&B woes. Maybe I am just a cranky female but…I’m usually used to your witty anecdotes but if you take that first half off of your intro to AJATT Plus…it would come off MUCH nicer…

Picture a tree of laughter. Each leaf on this tree is a joke. At first, everyone enjoys being by the tree, it keeps them happy. But before long, someone goes “I don’t like this leaf, it offends me,” and rips it off. Everyone else starts looking for leaves they didn’t like, knowing now that it’s okay to rip them off. Well, before long, the tree is just all stems.

Very interesting… But how to pay via pay pal without having a credit card? I mean, when I’m trying to finish the transaction, it always requires a credit card.

        • January 21, 2012 at 05:43

You’ve got to be kidding me-it’s so tnrapsaretnly clear now!
